Christian Hostages in Afghanistan
I’m posting this story so that I’ll remember to keep following the story. I need to be praying for this group of medical missionaries held by the Taliban. Two have been murdered.

I enjoyed this salon.com article about a Hindu saint who is considered a goddess because of her ability to give amazing bear hugs without catching infectious diseases from those who come to her. This was my favorite quote:
Innocuous and intimate, the hug is a brilliant gesture for a reputed saint to make — a cosmic download about compassion and connection delivered in a package that’s about as challenging and exotic as a Hershey’s kiss.

I haven’t mentioned this storyline even though I still read “For Better or For Worse” everyday. Lest I forget, this is the week Liz and Anthony finally got together (again). My friend Michael and I are exchanging messages of disgust as we reminisce about when we used to like storylines about Liz Patterson. In the strip, she is about a year younger than me. Supposedly, she has bounced back from three bad relationships to realize her high-school boyfriend (recently separated, not yet divorced father of one) was the man for her all along. I would have no problem with this story if she had shown any previous interest in being a mother or being part of Anthony’s family. As far as we can tell from the strip, she hasn’t met anyone except his insanely jealous (ex)wife, and she doesn’t spend any time with her brother’s kids. But maybe the questions will make for more entertaining comics.
I’m not posting part of the strip, but there’s a link to the side.
This Banana Boat tanning product confuses me. Is this a doctored photo just for marketing purposes? Or will some people with pale skin buy this product intending to get that dark? She is close to my shade in this advertisement and seems to consider it an improvement.

I thought people tanned to get a “healthy golden glow” without looking chocolate. I can imagine this lady getting mistaken for someone of a different race quite often, maybe even discriminated against.
